Former Man United star Ander Herrera has described former coaches Louis van Gaal, Ole Gunner Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho as a “teacher”, “legend” and “a great home”.
The Spanish midfielder recently opened up about his time at Old Trafford, breaking down in tears when describing his “painful” exit from the club.
His recent memories are a testament to the three United managers he managed during his time at the club, with the former Red Devil praising each for his unique coaching aspects.

Speaking to the UTD Podcast, Herrera talked about the three managers but started by discussing the current Holland boss; Louis van Gaal.
Totally different coaches, said the 33-year-old. Van Gaal I would say, a topical game coach, like a guru sometimes to young players.
He told me several times why are you moving all the time? And I got used to it. I come from two managers where it was the player who made the move.
But after a couple of months, I got used to it. We won the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League and I got better. I learned a lot from him.’
Herrera has thrived in Van Gaal’s system at United, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists in 72 appearances under the Dutch boss.

Turning to Jose Mourinho, Herrera paid tribute to the Portuguese coach and claimed he had instilled a must-have attitude among United’s players.
“He is one of the greatest managers of all time. One of the most successful managers of all time. He discovered a new position for me, made me a more defensive midfielder.
It was a counter-attack, counter-attacking team, but then, at the end of the season, we won three titles and qualified for the Champions League. It’s not bad.
Mourinho as a house coach *** [laughs]. It doesn’t matter what you have to do to win, I just want to win, and we win.
Herrera was an integral part of Mourinho United’s side and was involved in Community Shield, Europa League and League Cup successes in the 2016/17 season.

On his last coach – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – the Spaniard showered him with praise and called the Norwegian an Old Trafford “legend”.
“He’s one of the best people I’ve met in football. He was a legend but he was so humble to be in a relationship with the players,” said Herrera.
‘Frankly speaking, for his work at the club he hasn’t had the recognition he deserves, or he hasn’t had the success he deserves, because he’s been doing a great job at the club.
He believed very much in Sir Alex Ferguson’s philosophy and wanted to bring that philosophy back to the club, but it wasn’t easy. The players were different, the moment was different, the football was different.
Herrera was a prominent feature in Solsjkaer United’s squad before leaving the club to join PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

The 33-year-old has now returned to Spain to play for Athletic Bilbao on loan – the club he initially signed from to join Manchester United.
Herrera broke down in tears when discussing his departure from former club Manchester United, claiming that he expected more from the club.
Herrera revealed that he found his exit from United “painful” as he was expecting an offer from his club to extend his stay with the Red Devils, which coincided with FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League wins.
Instead, he moved to France where he won two Ligue 1 titles, two French Coupe titles and one Champions League medal before moving on loan to Spain.
