British and Irish Lions head to the Middle East after the FIFA World Cup – Rock

Reports tonight suggest that Qatar is starting a major rugby move by holding talks about hosting the British and Irish Lions Test in 2025.

According to Mail Online, the Gulf country is looking to capitalize on staging the World Cup with more mega-events in the country

Qatar’s bid to host the Lions includes a one-off match in preparation for the 2025 series in Australia, similar to the game between the tourists and the Barbarians in Hong Kong in 2013.

A source told the newspaper: “The success of the World Cup showed that we can organize the biggest international events in this country,”

Qatar is already scheduled to host the 2030 Asian Games and there is talk of a bid for the Olympics in 2036, so we are focused on developing the Olympic Games. Rugby Sevens fits that model and we have the infrastructure to stage world class events.

A full Rugby World Cup would be beyond our scope but we can certainly do a one-off Lions test and a Sevens tournament. Sevens only needs one court and is completed in three days.

All black and door to combine:

It has been confirmed that the combined Wallabies and All Blacks team could take on the British and Irish Lions in 2025.

In 2021, the famous touring Lions are set to play three Tests against the Wallabies in Australia.

Chairman of Rugby Australia Hamish McLennan proposed an additional encounter involving players from both sides of the Tasman Sea at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as part of the tour.

“We’ve been talking to the New Zealanders about hosting an ANZAC team against the Lions in 2025 and they’re considering the idea,” McLennan told the Daily Mail.

“I have no doubt it will be great and we will sell out the MCG with 100,000 fans.

“The best of the Wallabies and the All Blacks against the Lions will create massive worldwide coverage.”

Greenwood on Rhys Zammit: “The Welshman saw his opportunities limited on his tour to South Africa but in his short spells you could tell a star was in the making.”

Our pick: Louis Rhys Zmmit (Wales), Adam Radwan (England), Freddie Steward (England)

# Positions:

  • 13 – Gary Ringrose (Ireland)
  • 12 – Cameron Redpath (Scotland)

Greenwood in Redpath: “I am convinced that Redpath would have been traveling in South Africa this year had it not been for the serious knee injury he sustained while playing for Bath.”

Our pick: Gary Ringrose (Ireland), Cameron Redpath (Scotland)
