Eurobike Tech Gallery #4: Handmade African Steel, AirTag Mounts and Aerodynamic Lights – CyclingTips

As the dust settles on Eurobike 2022, Messe Frankfurt prepares for the upcoming trade show. Eurobike’s new home is even bigger than its previous location in Friedrichshafen, and Frankfurt’s grand halls have attracted some of the biggest names in the industry to one of Europe’s biggest trade shows.

In the next in our gallery series, we take a look at what’s new from Topeak, Lezyne, and some bike assembly tools, among others. Stay tuned for more Eurobike coverage and catch up on everything so far in our dedicated Eurobike 2022 archive.

Onguza Bikes

In March, former professional cyclist and Olympian Dan Craven launched Onguza, a new brand of handmade steel bicycles in his hometown of Namibia. Craven and Onguza are on a mission to “change the way people perceive products made in Namibia – and Africa as a whole”. This Onguza gravel bike was on the SRAM stand and looks fantastic.
Onguza’s bikes are handcrafted by Petrus Mufenge and Sakaria Nkolo and made in small batches of just five to 25, shipped worldwide.
The name “Onguza” comes from the Namibian word “okuti-onguza”, which means “the great expanse of the desert”. out there’ in the Himba and Herero languages.

The Tubimaster RXT Pro attaches directly to a seatpost and includes a long list of tools given its compact nature, including a multi-tool, tire levers, chain breaker, tire plug kit tubeless and a CO2 cartridge.
The new Torq Rocket MiniX from Topeak is a pocket-sized torque wrench kit with all the usual hex and Torx bits.
The Ratchet ‘n Roll Pro is a new roll-up tool case featuring a ratchet and 17 bits and tools, including a host of essentials for the road.

Both roll up into a neat scroll, though this one is empty of tools.
Topeak also introduced its two new torque wrench kits for the first time at Sea Otter. The Torq Stick Pro includes a 4-20nm torque wrench, ratchet, quick sleeve bit holder, finger bit holder and 1.5/2/2/2.5/3/4/5/ 6/8/10mm plus T6/T7/T8/T9/T10/T15/T20/T25/T30 Torx bits.
The smaller Torq Stick 2-10 includes a 2-10nm torque wrench but drops the ratchet and half the bits.

The Topeak Cage Mount for Apple Airtag combines with any bottle cage or can be used standalone on any downtube cage or boss. The Cage Mount is supplied with two anti-theft stainless steel bolts and a specific hex key is included.

Lezyne

Lezyne also offers a new line of Apple AirTag holders, including the Matrix Air Cage, a water bottle cage that neatly hides an AirTag inside an integrated, hidden, IPX7 waterproof holder. The Matrix Aircage will be available from September, priced at US$29.99.

The Matrix Bike Tagger mounts and conceals an AirTag under a water bottle cage, or bolted to the variety of mounts offered on modern bike frames. The Matrix Bike Tagger is IPX7 rated for water and constructed from Lezyne’s composite matrix materials. The bracket is also supplied with TR25 security bolts. Fouriers

Taiwanese component manufacturer Fouriers has arrived with a pair of new bike assembly tools that I really want. Not for bike assembly, just tinkering with my own stance.

This crankset is the ADP-FIT-CZ and offers bike builders quick and easy crank length adjustments in a single crank from 144mm all the way up to 180mm.

The ADP-FIT-SA is an adjustable stem offering length adjustments from 50mm to 150mm and angle adjustments of +/- 20°.
This measuring platform helps installers find the correct length and angle from the adjustable rod. Fouriers also featured a width-adjustable front sight. While none of these products are designed or safe for on-road use, they could undoubtedly save an installer countless hours of component swapping in fitting studios.

Cyclone

We first spotted Cyclon’s Speed ​​Brake Roller outside the Team Jumbo-Visma truck before the Tour of Flanders. The system drives the wheels to help mechanics “break in” new brake pads and rotors on the spot.

The Speed ​​Brake Roller is powered by a 0.75 horsepower motor and features a replaceable V-belt and reversible steering for use with both front and rear wheels. It is a heavy machine, weighing 35 kg.

The Speed ​​​​​​Brake Roller is designed for workshop mechanics and is unlikely to find its way into too many home workshops, given that it is priced at €1,600 + VAT.

Tripeak

Tripeak is getting into the oversized pulley game with this new, soon to be released Jetstream Single Arm Derailleur Pulley Cage Kit. Tripeak claims the Jetstream is durable, hard wearing and quieter, smoother and lower friction than standard cages and pulleys.

The Jetstream will be available in orange, silver and black and will be compatible with Shimano R9100 / R9200 / R8000 / R8100 / R7000 and SRAM AXS groupsets. It will be priced at US$240.

Tripeak also had these Jetstream oversized pulley wheels compatible with standard Shimano pulley cages, if oversized, single-arm pulley cages aren’t your thing. The larger 16-tooth lower pulley features an offset bracket to help squeeze the larger pulley into a standard Shimano 11-speed cage. The 12-tooth upper and 16-tooth lower combination would provide the same benefits as the Jetstream derailleur cage kit and is priced at US$140.
Tripeak also wants another bottom bracket standard, with these T42 bottom brackets currently compatible with BB86 shells and an adapter. But Tripeak is not satisfied with an adapter, the brand wants manufacturers to start integrating its new T42 standard, which is supposed to bring the same advantages as the T47, in new frames as standard.

LightSkin’s Naca Road is an airfoil headlight with a claimed CdA of 0.267.

Naca Road was developed by Extent Lighting, an automotive headlight engineering company in Korea and a partner of LightSkin. Incorporating automotive projection lens technology, LightSkin claims the Naca Road achieves a “perfect cut-off line at a height of just 2cm and meets 45km/h ECE R113 Class B regulations”, the standard required for the certification of motor vehicle headlights. .

Run time ranges from 1.5 to 5 hours and the light has a claimed weight of 160 grams. The aluminum housing ensures durability and heat dissipation. It supports IP66 waterproof rating.
