Man United are still trying to bring in Frenkie de Jong, but a recent report claimed that Leicester City Yourri Tielemans is also a target for the Red Devils, who are expected to sign at least one before the end of the transfer window.

Eriksen has arrived on a free transfer but the Denmark international is likely to operate a little further afield, while Ten Hag said he is considering Donny van de Beek as a number 10, the team’s options in the two central midfield positions are therefore limited following the departures of Nemanja Mátic and Paul Pogba.

Florian Grillitsch was linked with the Red Devils earlier this summer, and the 26-year-old is now a free agent due to his contract expiring at Hoffenheim.

The 33-time Austria international, who plays largely as a bottom-line defensive player, made just 18 Bundesliga appearances all season, missing the end of the campaign with a muscle problem.

Grillitsch made 150 appearances for Hoffenheim before leaving, while he also represented Werder Bremen on 54 occasions between 2015 and 2017, and at 6ft 2in he would be an imposing presence for the Red Devils, who are surely expected to move quickly in order to secure his signature amid growing competition.
