To have an extremely timely conversation: what do you think of this year’s games so far? And what do you think of this question in the first place? I’ve had an amazing gaming year, and I think that’s due to a lot of new games? Maybe? This type of question has always touched on the fact that people have been playing games for years and start “old” games all the time, and maybe that’s less useful than ever now that all the other games are a live service. But I had a good year playing, and that’s what matters. So what are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on!
is on vacation !
I have a wedding this weekend so I’ll try to keep my two left feet from being crushed in a ceilidh. And the Tour De France Women ends on Sunday so I’m trying to do some more bike games for my Tour De Jeux. This series took longer (and was longer) than expected. It was funny. God knows what I’ll do next.
It’s a long weekend for House Wheeler this week. The summer school holidays have started, so I hope to find time to play with the young people. Without a doubt, we will be playing Peppa Pig on PC Game Pass. Other than that, I’m hoping to jump into PowerWash Simulator and maybe a bit of interstellar exploration in No Man’s Sky now that the Endurance update is out. Oh, and MultiVersus. Definitely MultiVersus.
Always predictable, I’ll hammer more judgment on the PS5. The murder case is getting spicier by the minute, and I’ve taken on some brilliant side cases. I recently apprehended a threat called Ass Catchem and ran after a wig that got lost in the breeze. There are a few too many chase missions for my liking, but it’s been great to approach Kamurocho from a detective’s perspective so far.
MultiVersus has caught me in a vice and I don’t want to escape. Unlike a few other team members, I don’t have the Founder’s Pack. Ed, Liam, and Rebecca like to talk about it daily, reminding me of all the characters they can use when I only have access to a bunch of temporary goodies. Fortunately, one of the current free characters is Finn the Human from Adventure Time. Finn is arrested. I love Finn. Their special upward spin attack is lethal, and I’m just trying to get the most out of it before an inevitable nerf kicks in.
is on vacation !
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has just been released and… I have conveniently booked the upcoming week on vacation. These two things are completely unrelated, I must add (the holidays were set long before I knew Xenoblade was going to come out), but as it turns outyes, I will indeed be spending my week off playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Ta-rah!
More Metal Gear Solid V for me this weekend as I continue my replay on the Steam Deck. I could delve into a bit of Multiverse to improve my pre-season battle pass (sorry, I just puked a little in my mouth typing that sentence), but neither could I. I really don’t have anything interesting to say this week, I’m afraid. I think I just want to play more Exoprimal and I’m grumpy that I can’t.
Ooh, MultiVersus is pretty good, isn’t it? I haven’t played it much yet, just a few hours. The walls of text explaining each character’s movement are a little intimidating at first, but the charm and quality of the game makes me want to invest that time reading and researching to make sense of all the chaos on screen. . I’ve lost a few games so far – mostly to Superman the big flying asshole – but I’ve won the rest so I’m starting to think the learning curve isn’t as insurmountable as I thought at the beginning.
The cute cat game! I was desperate to play Stray and Katharine’s review only made me more excited. You can knead the mats! Knock the pots off the ledges! And there is a designated meow button! I started playing earlier last week but the heat wave completely destroyed my evenings so I’ve been playing it this week now it’s a bit cooler and hope to see the credits by the end of the weekend.
I’m leaving next week to visit my family, but my trusty portable devices are never far from me. I just finished replaying Danganronpa 1 on Switch, so I have the Dangan Academy post-game mode to play next. Somehow I never got into it the first time, but after that replay I found myself really looking forward to trying it properly. On my laptop, meanwhile, I’ve been playing the Rusty Lake series from the very beginning, and I suspect my puzzle-loving Twin Peaks-loving parents might actually enjoy joining in on these.
But you, dear reader, what are you playing this weekend?
