A close up of the hot-patch on the Vittoria N.EXT tyre

Vittoria’s new Corsa N.EXT tire replaces cotton with nylon, but why?

Vittoria today announced the launch of a new road tyre, the Corsa N.EXT, which replaces the existing cotton carcass with nylon. He claims that in doing so, it provides competition-level performance while providing better puncture protection and increased grip.

In the conversation about what makes the best road bike tires, cotton casings are generally considered king thanks to their ability to keep weight low and provide a supple ride quality. Vittoria’s existing Corsa range uses a core spun cotton carcass, with 320 TPI (threads per inch) construction, to which the tread is bonded in place.
