Everton had a night to forget as they were beaten 4-0 by MLS side Minnestoa United.
It was a miserable night for Frank Lampard’s side, who conceded three goals before half-time.
Another goal after the break added to their misery on a humiliating evening.
Everton’s sad day came down to Dele Alli missing an open goal from three yards out.
Although it was a pre-season friendly and the result didn’t count for anything, Lampard warned that his side had to be better if they were to avoid another relegation game.
He said: “The players have to work and understand that we were in a relegation battle for a lot of last season.
“We had an incredible night (against Crystal Palace) and an incredible run, but as soon as it was over I put him to bed very quickly so the players have to put him to bed too because we were in this fight for a reason.
“If we don’t want to be in this situation again, they have to be better and I have to be better.

“As a club, this (the Minnesota game) has reinforced the situation in terms of what we have to do with the team, because it has to be stronger than what we have seen tonight.
“The players in the dressing room have to understand that they put in a very poor performance individually and collectively.”
Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders says we have to take the result with a grain of salt as they may have trained hard the day before.
He told talkSPORT: “They could just say ‘what we’re going to do is have a 12 minute run today and don’t worry about the game tomorrow, you’ll play 45 minutes each’.
“It affects the performance, so you’re not really worried. It’s a bit embarrassing that score, though.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor feared the Toffees were preparing for another relegation fight and they may regret selling Richarlison.
He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I think Richarlison is going to affect them more than people realize. He maintained them last season with his goals.
“Losing it and not replacing it is a big risk. You shouldn’t lose 4-0 to Minnesota.
“Yes, the conditions are very hot there. It’s pre-season so you can’t go into details but after last season Everton would like a top-flight pre-season under their belt, especially with the season starting in two weeks.
