Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Christopher Pfeiffel as their new manager.
Vivell previously worked at RB Leipzig in the club’s recruitment and scouting departments before leaving the role in October to take up a consultant position at Stamford Bridge in October.
He has now been appointed as the club’s new technical director, and will begin his position immediately.
Christopher Pfeiffel, former Leipzig mentor, has been appointed as Chelsea’s new technical director
Chelsea owner Todd Boyle has finally appointed Fyville after Petr Cech’s summer exit
Following his appointment, Pfeiffel told the official Chelsea website: “Chelsea are building the most exciting project in world football and I am incredibly proud to be joining the club.
“There is a lot of potential for the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow. Under new ownership, Graham Potter and the wider sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinning performance analysis, data and innovation, and I look forward to playing a part in that.”
Chelsea FC owner Todd Bohle and co-owner Bagdad Eghbali added: ‘We are delighted that Christopher is taking on such an important leadership role at the club. His work in Germany and Austria speaks for itself.
“We are confident he will continue his impressive career here at Chelsea. He will provide important support to Graham and the ownership group and play a vital role in developing our overall vision for the club.”
Replacing Petr Cech, who stepped down as Chelsea’s technical advisor in June, has proven to be a tall order for Bohle.
Vivell played an important role in bringing Erling Haaland to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019
The Premier League side tried to lure Michael Edwards and Christoph Freund to west London, but failed to secure deals across the line for either man.
They then turned their attention to Vivell, who has a proven track record having also worked for Red Bull Salzburg before returning home to join Leipzig.
During his time in Austria, Vivell was responsible for signing Erling Haaland again in 2019.
Haaland scored 29 goals in 27 games for Salzburg, before moving to Borussia Dortmund the following year.
Since then, he has continued to establish himself as one of the best strikers in Europe, and has made an impressive start to his time at Manchester City, scoring 23 goals in 17 appearances this season.
