And Bill — whose character Kane is currently embroiled in a love triangle with the two women in his life, Wendy Crozier, played by Roberta Kerr, 70, and Martha Fraser, portrayed by Stephanie Beecham, 75 — is set to play out more onscreen drama.

A Coronation Street source told The Sun: ‘Ken Barlow has been at the heart of Coronation Street since he started 62 years ago and that isn’t changing anytime soon.

And as we saw in the recent love triangle story, he’s not planning on slowing down.

Soap star Bell holds the world record for longest serving TV actor in a continuing role playing Ken Barlow.

Peel, a former MBE, revealed the hilarious reaction to King Charles, 74, who playfully asked, “You’re still working, right?”

After meeting the King, Pell said: ‘I love the royal family – I’ve met the Queen about seven times.

“Charles is really really friendly and maybe more easygoing in a way.”

‘But the Queen,’ he added, was even – when she came (to visit the site of the coronation) less than a year ago – she always listened, was attentive as she was at the ball, and never missed a trick. It was very bright.

And they always love humor which I all love. I am very fond of the royal family.

Peel – who recently admitted he almost left Coronation Street to pursue another dream – said he and the King chatted about their workloads during the ceremony and said: ‘Charles was lovely – very friendly.

He said: Are you still working? I said, “Yeah, I just had two ex-girlfriends on the show.”

He said, “Oh, this must be a business.” I said, “Wish you, sir, a long and pleasant reign?”
