DreamWorks and Illumination movies coming to Netflix in 2023 and beyond

In the summer of 2021, Netflix struck a new deal with two of Universal’s animation studios (Dreamworks and Illumination) to receive all new theatrically released films to come to Netflix in the US for a limited time. Below is your complete guide to which movies are available now and are on their way to Netflix in 2023 and beyond.

Please note: This list applies to Netflix US only. Deals for other regions will vary greatly.

The deal was announced in July 2021 and isn’t the first time Netflix has accessed global anime titles. It held the first window rights to Illumination titles for years but lost the Dreamworks deal in 2019.

How does the Universal Animation and Netflix Deal work?

Previously, Netflix’s Pay 1 windows were 18 months in length, and while that was the case for Universal Animated films, Netflix will not have the films for the duration.

Instead, Netflix will occupy the middle 10 months of 18 months.

The theatrical window of December 2021 was announced to be reduced from 120 days to 45 days, but in reality most of the films that hit Netflix were 70 days.

Here is what this window looks like:
