Carrey’s signature Grinch costume features bright yellow lenses, which are part of the character’s trademark look throughout the film

Special effects make-up artist Kazuhiro Tsuji was responsible for transforming Carrey into the Grinch

Special effects make-up artist Kazuhiro Tsuji was responsible for transforming Carrey into the Grinch. It was reported that Curry had a nightmare with the Grinch costume, which included a yak-fur suit, green make-up, facial prostheses and yellow contact lenses, which made him particularly irritable.

Some commenters have also indicated that losing contact lenses may be a cause of discomfort.

Special effects make-up artist Kazuhiro Tsuji, who was responsible for transforming Carrey into the Grinch, previously described how awkward and particularly uncomfortable Carrey’s bulky contact lenses were. The snow on the group kept falling in.

This, along with wGetting a huge yak fur costume, facial prosthetics and layers of green paint took its toll on Carrey and Tsuji described how unpleasant the actor was to work with.

In a 2017 interview with Vulture Tsuji said of Carrey: ‘Once we were on set, he was really mean to everyone and at the beginning of production they couldn’t finish.

“After two weeks, we could only finish three days of the shooting schedule, because all of a sudden he would disappear and when he came back, everything was torn apart. We couldn’t shoot anything.

Three-time Academy Award nominee Tsuji ended up dropping the movie due to stress, but returned on the condition that the production company help him get his green card and that Carrey would be better behaved.

In an effort to help Carrey deal with the “terrifying” experience of being dressed as the Grinch, in which he spent 92 days, producer Brian Grazer enlists a CIA agent who specializes in enduring torture to offer some advice.

Curry said he developed a smoking habit two packs a day after the agent told him, “Eat everything you see.” If you panic and start to spin down, turn on the TV, change the pattern, and have someone you know come over and hit you on the head, punch you in the leg or smoke as hard as you can.
