Holiday movies to stream in blizzard

did you hear It will snow on Thursday. And on Friday. Maybe too much. Whether you’re able to hunker down or have to contend with circumstances because of work, it’s a good idea to have some entertainment at the ready.

These are, in my opinion, the best option out there for every streaming service that you have seen personally. You may have watched others and think they are the best. That’s okay. I cordially invite you to find this post on our Milwaukee Radio social accounts, jump into the comments and add to the list in a kind and respectful manner.

Happy watching, happy shoveling, happy holidays.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (Disney +)

My favorite holiday movie It’s also an all-time favorite of Brett Goldstein (and features Brits everywhere). The music is great. The voice acting is top notch. The person acting is first class.

As director Brian Henson He told The GuardianMichael Caine said he would approach the role “as if I were working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I’m never going to wink, I’m never going to do anything, Muppety. I’m going to play Scrooge like it’s a completely dramatic role and there are no puppets around me.” It’s also great when a celebrity with a somewhat average singing voice still fits right in.

Spirited (Apple TV+)

This newcomer We made a very strong first impression on the holiday movie spin. The songwriting is excellent (thanks Bing Basic and Justin Paul From Dear Evan Hansen And the La La Landamong many others), but Chloe Arnold’s choreography really elevates the whole thing – especially the end credits number which must have cost a few million in itself.

The Elf (HBO Max)

Is Ferrell, the king of holiday movies? I’m not sure two films are enough to qualify for this lofty title, but you can make the argument given the quality. While Ferrell is the person he is most associated with dwarfThe cast is what makes this movie a classic. Bob Newhart is an American treasure, Peter Dinklage chews the scene with pleasure for appearing 5 minutes, and James Caan is the film’s MVP.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (Netflix)

Speaking of munching scenery, I can’t remember if Keegan-Michael Key actually twirled his mustache during his villainous turn, but it wasn’t out of place. in a movie That makes the dial up to 11 in almost every aspect — the visuals, the musical numbers, the emotions. There is nothing else like it on this list.

Happiest Season (Hulu)

opinions about This 2020 movie They were kind of all over the place, but I don’t know… I loved it. This was kind oftwilight– Proof of Kristen Stewart to me. Her character is light-hearted and verging on a hopper – in the early part of the movie anyway. Things take a turn eventually, as they do in rom-coms, and that certainly is the case. It’s also another group of heavy hitters, including Mackenzie Davis, Daniel Levy, Victor Garber and Marie Steenburgen (also in dwarf … the queen of holiday movies?).

Die Hard (Starz)

This is a Christmas movie. moving forward.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Peacock)

Some call this the holiday season. For me, it’s the season to appreciate Thurl Ravenscroft. It’s the deep, deep voice behind the title song This classic Christmas special (as well as Tony the Tiger). Combined with Thurl, it’s 26 minutes of classic animated style entertainment from director Chuck Jones. More Fun Trivia: June Foray, Voice Actor of Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Almost 946 other charactersplayed Cindy Lou Who but is not officially credited.

It’s a Wonderful Life / Miserly (Amazon Prime Video)

I’ll be honest: There isn’t a lot of boffo holiday content on Amazon Prime Video. So this is two opposite ends of the spectrum – a Hollywood classic With Movie Roger Ebert described it as “obviously intended as a comedy, but there is little comedy about it, and indeed the overriding emotions of the film seem to be pain and anger”. The same can be said about It’s a wonderful life, in fact (without the comics). I’m not a fan of either, but a lot of people have Amazon Prime, so there you go.
