I’ve never heard of him!

Prue Leith admitted she had never heard from The Great British Bake Off star Noel Fielding until he appeared on the show.

Appearing on Lorraine on Tuesday morning, the famed judge on the Channel 4 baking series also shared her thoughts on Matt Lucas’ Bake Off director.

Comedian and presenter Matt, 48, announced on Tuesday that he had quit his role after three series.

“I’ve never heard of him! ”: Prue Leith admitted she had never heard of the great British Bake Off star, Noel Fielding, until he appeared on the show

He has co-hosted the show alongside Noel Fielding since 2020 but has decided his time on the show is up.

“I never heard of Noel Fielding until he came,” Brough, 82, admitted awkwardly.

Speaking of Matt’s replacement, she explained, ‘I want an older comedian. The truth is, I never understood Matt and Noel’s jokes anyway. I adore Matt and he wants to do more theatre.

Then Prue remembered trying to cook lobster for Princess Margaret – which she went horribly wrong.

‘When I was just starting cooking school,’ she said, ‘I had never seen lobster in my life and was asked to cook lobster for Princess Margaret.

“In the face of the lobster, I’ve got a knife, and in the butler walks in who says, ‘What are you doing?!’ “

And he said, “You idiot, they’re already dead, they’ve been boiled.” And I didn’t know they were black when they were alive and red when they were dead,” she admitted.

She added, “If you’re going to kill a crab, the quickest way to do it is to stab it in the head.”

Brough, 82, admitted embarrassingly:

Joe Lysette, Sean Walsh, Nadja Hussain and Amelia Dimoldenberg are currently the bookies’ favorites to replace Matt Lucas as host of Great British Bake Off.

In a statement, Matt cited his heavy workload as the reason for his departure from Bake Off, saying he wouldn’t have time to host it alongside his work on the Fantasy Football League.

He wrote: “Farewell Bake! It was a delicious experience and I can’t imagine a more fun way to spend the summer.

But it dawned on me that I couldn’t do both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all of my other projects.

So, after three series and 51 episodes, I’m cheerfully passing the baguette to someone else.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul and Dame Prue, the staff and of course the wonderful bakers for welcoming me to the tent.

“I hope whoever takes on the best and I can’t wait to join the next series not already knowing who wins!”

Matt joined the show in Series 11, replacing fellow comedian Sandy Toksvig who left the programme, after three seasons.

The comedian was showered with well wishes from Bake Off fans who said they will miss him on the show.

Noel, who joined as co-host when Bake Off moved to Channel 4 in Series 8, will remain with the show alongside judges Paul and Prue.

During its original run on BBC, the series was presented by Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyk.

Syabira Yusoff was crowned the winner of the 2022 series last month, defeating competition by Abdulrahman Sharif, 29, and Sandro Farmhouse, 30, in what proved to be a very tough final for the trio – especially a technical challenge.

After Matt called out her name, a delighted Syabira told how her win was “the biggest achievement of my life”.

Ciabira was praised by judge Paul Hollywood after her win, saying, “Some flavors we’ve never seen in the tent before and we’re not likely to get again, she’s an amazing baker.”
