What’s certain about James Gunn’s DCU so far

James Gunn opposite DC Comics characters.

With Gunn writing a script for Superman Film, the film will focus on a younger Clark Kent during his early days in Metropolis. According to Gunn, this version of Man of Steel will already know several key characters from the canon, as a way of emphasizing that this will not be an origin story. It will simply center around a younger Superman, who will likely continue to approach things as a superhero. The approach is similar to that of Robert Pattinson Batman Focus on Bruce Wayne during his sophomore year as a crime fighter.

Although Ben Affleck has apparently been done with the Batman character, Gunn met with the actor/filmmaker last week and is hoping to get the former Dark Knight star to helm a future DCU movie. Under Gunn and Safran’s leadership, their DC Studios responsibilities will include controlling TV, movies, animation, and even video games, especially central console-related. The plan is to help create a more cohesive universe, which Warner Bros. wants to create. Discovery is set to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and have similar success with its superhero brand. Similar to the old franchise, there will be DCU TV shows that tie into the movies, a la Suicide Squad And the peace maker.

While it’s understandable that some fans might be upset with recent developments in the DCU, particularly Cavill’s Superman no longer in the franchise, online harassment and attacks have never been and will not be tolerated in any way. It’s also pointless to start criticizing Gunn and Safran’s new vision for the DCU when they haven’t shot a single frame of any of their upcoming movies and TV shows. 2023 still has all of the old DCU sequels left, which means it likely won’t be until 2024 at the earliest when they’ll even offer a taste of DC Studios’ new direction. Until more about is revealed DCUFans will have to wait patiently to see what comes out of DC Studios in the years to come.
