Jenna Ortega took her inspiration from Wednesday’s original viral dance hit

Her self-choreographed dance scene on Wednesday’s Netflix series quickly became popular and has become a TikTok trend ever since.

Gina Ortega, 20, who plays Wednesday Addams in the Tim Burton film adaptation, said many of her moves were homages to the likes of the original Wednesday Addams, played by Lisa Loring. So are Siouxsie and The Banshees.

Jenna revealed that she is “not a dancer” and “hasn’t slept in two days” during her exit with the whimsical dance sequence to love interest Xavier, which she performed on The Cramps’ 1981 single Goo Goo Muck.

Burton asked Ortega to come up with her own moves over the course of two days and Jenna told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that the original Wednesday gave her some ideas.

“You did a tribute to Lisa Loring, the first Addams Wednesday,” she said, “I did a little dodge that she does.” And of course, they cut the camera when I did. But it’s there – I know it’s there.

She also said, “I’ve seen videos of Siouxsie and the Banshees… I found archive footage of Goth kids dancing in clubs in the ’80s… Anything I can get my hands on. Then that day, I thought, ‘Okay, okay, I’ll do it’.”

Oh, that's a shame: Sadly the moment itself was cut out by the cameras, but Jenna said,

One fan even noted that she paid homage to the original Gomez as they posted a side-by-side comparison of the two.

They wrote: “I threw a movement in there that was an homage to John Astin Gomez. Don’t think we don’t see you. I did well.’

It’s also good that the dance was so well received because Gina was nervous about it early on.

I felt like an idiot. I’m not a dancer. I don’t do any of that. I don’t have experience in this field. After that, I did not sleep for two days.

The Scream actress stated that Netflix told her the dance was going viral on TikTok but she didn’t believe it. She humorously added, “Then they were right.”
