An unexpected free kick by Jesse Lingard restored Forest’s advantage before Taiwo Owonyi’s volley made it the third goal.
Johnson scored the second late on to complete an impressive display.
Blackburn boss John Dal Thomason made 11 changes from the squad that beat Norwich City on Saturday, and the Championship promotion hunters – currently third in the Second Division – struggled to contain Forest; Especially Johnson.
The striker, who had played in all three of Wales’ matches in Qatar and was one of three World Cup players chosen to start for Forest, won the penalty in the 12th minute after Wharton was fouled before Forest’s Ainslie Bears were sent the wrong way. spot.
Despite having 16 shots in the first half, Forest were unable to extend their lead, and were hit back shortly before the break when Wharton headed in a free kick taken by younger brother Adam.
Premier League side Steve Cooper kept his momentum going after half-time, returning to the front when Lingard’s free-kick was deflected twice before the Bears swept past.
Awoniyi then secured Forest’s lead by taking the piercing Lingard pass, chipping away at Wharton and finishing cool past the Bears, who made several good saves to keep the score respectable.
Johnson finished off the win in injury time, sprinting past the Bears from inside the penalty area.
The victory guarantees Forest a place in the UEFA Cup quarter-final draw, which will take place on Thursday night.
