Liverpool made a big push ahead of facing Manchester City on Thursday

Jurgen Klopp has been given a boost with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson and Fabinho all back in training.

The trio, who were all knocked out of the World Cup at the quarter-final stage, are vying with the club over their Carabao Cup visit to Manchester City later this week.

It comes after Klopp said on Friday that they could all participate – although Virgil van Dijk will still be absent from the League Cup clash as Liverpool monitor his fitness ahead of the Premier League’s return.

Jurgen Klopp gave a talk to the whole squad before they underwent training together for the first time with – almost – the full squad.

“Yes, of course there is a chance – they are already training,” said the 55-year-old.

Henderson is already training here. Virgil is training here but I don’t think we’re going to try. Hindu we will see Trent we will see.

“I hope we all get through it and we all know in England, and in Europe in general, that there is some kind of virus circulating, so hopefully we can stay away from that.

Then we will make the decision clearly on Wednesday who can play on Thursday. But it is good and it will be a very interesting game after that period but I am looking forward to it.”

Liverpool players released pictures of their session on Monday as preparations for the return of domestic football intensified, and the Liverpool players appeared to smile as the majority of the players went through their paces at the Aksa training facility.

Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate missed out. The Dutchman is due for his extended rest while Konate participated in France’s World Cup final on Sunday and will be out for at least another week.

In slightly milder temperatures than have been seen in the UK over the past week or so, the likes of Jordan Henderson, Alisson, Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho have all been training.

Alisson and Henderson, in particular, have been heavily involved in their team’s endeavors in Qatar despite the tight nature of the current season meaning a quick return to training for them.

Henderson, who traveled to Dubai after England’s exit from Qatar, joined his teammates at Liverpool’s training grounds.

Alexander-Arnold, who played just a few minutes for Gareth Southgate’s World Cup side, looked to do some work on the ball ahead of Thursday’s appointment with Manchester City.

Elsewhere, the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Thiago – none of whom attended the tournament in Qatar – continued their preparations for the tournament’s return.

Of course there was no sign of Luis Diaz, who will be out until March after undergoing knee surgery following another Dubai snap issue.

Kostas Tsimikas laughed and laughed with Salah as the players progressed through the gym. It appeared Klopp had the entire squad together for a chat before the start of the training session on the turf, with the manager keen to energize his side for a much improved second part of the season.

Calvin Ramsey, who made a handful of appearances for the club after signing from Aberdeen in the summer, has looked prominent in photos from training and could feature against Manchester City.

Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City follows a visit to Aston Villa on Boxing Day as Klopp’s side look to chart a path to the Premier League table after a disappointing first part of the season.
