Manchester United have received a boost amid allegations that Chelsea will stop pursuing a top striker after agreeing to sign Christopher Nkunku.
Back in September, it emerged that RB Leipzig’s Konko had undergone Chelsea’s secret medical in Frankfurt the previous month. This was the first step in Chelsea’s plan to sign the striker first, before other major clubs such as Man United or Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool quickly spotted Chelsea’s resourcefulness and cunning and rallied them to try and take Nkunku first. However, they did not succeed. On November 9, the German port sports photo Revealed the victory of the Blues in the Leipzig man race.
They claimed his move to Stamford Bridge was calculated and awaiting announcement.
Transport expert Fabrizio Romano now has it Given the move, his full “Here We Go” seal of approval. Romano wrote on Twitter on Saturday: ‘Christopher Nkunku deal signed and sealed – here we are now confirmed. All documents and contracts also signed, 100% sealed.
“The French forward can be considered a new player at Chelsea, from July 2023. Everything is signed/sealed with RB Leipzig and the player’s side.”
It is understood that Chelsea have agreed to pay £53m for Nkunku. The Frenchman will arrive in west London to compete with the likes of Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a starting spot in attack.
Graham Potter has been closely linked with AC Milan winger Rafael Leao. He was on Potter’s shortlist to improve the ranks of the Chelsea striker.
Chelsea transfer from the Portuguese star
But it looks like the Blues are going to get away from Leao now, they have secured Nkunku’s move. to me Watch sports, who cited reports from Italy, Chelsea will find it difficult to match Leao’s exorbitant price tag once they concede £53m for Nkunku. Milan supposedly value the Portugal international at £87m.
The fact that Chelsea have chosen to ‘turn decisively’ towards Nkunku is an ‘important sign’ that they will no longer be chasing Liao.
This is a huge boost for Premier League rivals Man United. This is because Erik ten Hag considers Leao as Plan B to improve their offense.
Their priority is to sign Cody Gakbo from PSV in January. He will move to Old Trafford to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now a free agent.
Rafael Leao is on Manchester United’s wish list
But if Man United somehow mess up Gakpo, Leao is their alternative target. So the fact that Chelsea can’t go after the Serie A star is a huge bonus for the Red Devils.
Gakpo and Leao are similar in their positioning. Both tend to operate as left wingers at club level but seem to have the ability to feature in central attackers.
Gakpo is currently playing in an easier league than Leao. But the Dutch star is in better form this season.
While Leao scored seven goals in 20 games for Milan, Gakpo scored 13 goals from 24 games for PSV.
Whichever striker Man United end up signing, a great player will be added to their ranks. Leao and Gakpo both have the potential to shine in England.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will benefit from being able to use last season’s Bundesliga Player of the Year Nkunku once his transfer expires.
