Meghan’s biographer was furious with Kate

The event coincided with the release of the second part of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix documentary. The Daily Mail has received criticism for its recent article about the event in which one of its writers expressed her belief that members of the royal family were dressed in burgundy at a bar in Sussex.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Amanda Platel said the fashion choices of the senior members of the royal family were “no accident after all”.

She added: “What we were witnessing was a subtle, far-reaching response from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after their attack on the ‘racist’ royal family.”

For the occasion, Kate and her daughter, Princess Charlotte, wore coats in the same shade of burgundy that matched Prince William’s tie.

Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, also chose a coat of the same color, which was once again complimented by a Mike Tindall tie.

Pippa Middleton followed the couple closely in a dark red military-style coat with Kate’s father, Michael Middleton, even opting for a similarly colored tie.

Ms Platell took her analysis to the extreme claiming the royals had “mischievous smiles” on the evening of the concert.

She said: “Was this a show of support…for Kate on her special night after the beatings that she and William had suffered at the hands of H&M? I’d like to think so. Those mischievous smiles for the cameras when they entered the convent suggested to me that something was going on.”

According to Ms Platell, the key to her theory lies in the comments Meghan made in the documentary.

“The evidence of their coordinated response may lie in Meghan’s seemingly frivolous comment in the documentary about how the constraints of royal life influence her clothing choices,” she wrote.

In the Netflix documentary, the Duchess of Sussex told viewers how she “rarely wore color” while in the UK.

Meghan added: “There was thought to it. As far as I know, you can’t wear the same color as Her Majesty’s, if there’s a group event.

“But then, you should never wear the same color as a senior member of the family.”

Next, Meghan spoke about how she analyzed colors such as beige and white that are not usually worn by senior members of the royal family, which led the Duchess to opt for “lots of muted tones”.

According to Meghan, another benefit of this fashion choice was that it enabled her to blend in.

Platel’s article noted how the Queen Consort chose to wear a dazzling white coat for the Christmas event, along with Sophie, Countess of Wessex who wore similar muted colours.

Omid Scobie, co-author of In Search of Freedom about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, tweeted a front cover photo of the Daily Mail on Wednesday with the caption: “Seriously, what the hell is this?”.

The Daily Mail’s cover featured a photo of Charlotte in her coat and Kate in her gown with a headline between the couple reading: “Was the gorgeous royal show in burgundy a cheeky swipe at Meghan?”

Members of the public also commented on the Daily Mail article on Twitter where one user said: “Give her a break. She’s lost the plot.”

Another added, “I could be wrong but I’m guessing ‘no'” and another urged Ms. Platell to “get rid of the hate campaign”.

The article concluded by noting that burgundy is set to be an important color of 2023 and Ms Platell’s belief that “the Burgundy festival we witnessed was a carefully calculated act of solidarity”.

The Princess of Wales chose the color, which is often associated with the festive period, for the same occasion last year where she wore a red dress.

Last year, Prince William also wore a red tie, while Sophie, Countess of Wessex wore a dark red coat as did Carole Middleton, Kate’s mother.
