Messi’s wife Antonella celebrates with the Argentine star’s pen while dad watches
Lionel Messi’s wife Antonella jumped for joy when her husband put Argentina 1-0 up in the World Cup final.
The 35-year-old went into today’s match with the goal of making history by capping his glorious run with the only title that has so far eluded him.

Argentina started the match well, putting France under pressure from the whistle.
And they took a deserved lead in the 23rd minute, after Ousmane Dembele was adjudged to have fouled Angel Di Maria in the penalty area.
Messi stepped up to take the resulting penalty, beating Hugo Lloris from 12 yards sending millions of his fans around the world into ecstasy.
And no one pleased more than Antonella, who jumped up and waved her fists in celebration in the stands.


She was joined by sons Thiago, 10, Mateo, 7, and Ciro, 4.
The young trio celebrated wildly after seeing their dad record on the bigger stage.
And Messi’s father Jorge was watching proudly from the stands.
Things picked up for Argentina after just 13 minutes – with Messi involved again.

The Paris Saint-Germain star moved the ball beautifully as his side launched a counter-attack, with the ball eventually finding Alexis Mac Allister.
Then he passed it on to Di Maria, who brilliantly beat Lloris one by one.
France’s sluggish performance led President Didier Deschamps to take drastic measures two Substitutions only five minutes before the end of the first half.

Messi’s final World Cup boots featured a nod to Antonella and the kids.

His youngest child, Ciro Messi, has his name and date of birth stitched on the side of his left boot.
Messi’s wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, also bears part of her name “Anto” below Ciro’s.
On the outside of his right boot, his other children’s name and dates of birth appear: “Thiago 02 11 12” and “Mateo 11 09 15”.
Argentina eventually ran out penalty winners after a 3-3 draw in one of the greatest matches of all time.


After Lionel Messi’s side took a 2-0 lead, Kylian Mbappe fired twice quickly to take the match to extra time.
Then Messi and Mbappe scored again in extra time to send the match to penalties, and Argentina won 4-2 on penalties.
