Seraph’s Destiny 2 season contains two now unsolvable mysteries

In a recent TWAB, Bungie made a big point about saying Destiny 2 will still get new secrets in the future, after fan complaints that they haven’t done a big secret mission or mystery in a while. They’ve hinted that some might be very close indeed:

But as we developed our plans leading into Lightfall and beyond, I want to assure you that community feedback has been heard loud and clear, and “Putting more secrets into Destiny 2” is an initiative our teams have been working on for months before this conversation recently came to a head. Some of the secrets are small, some will be big, some will be coming next year, some very soon, but I promise we have a talented group of people who love this kind of content and know what it means for the community to discover and try.”

Tomorrow should bring with it a new bizarre multi-catalyst weapon quest, Revision Zero, which isn’t a secret in and of itself, but it might come tied together. Currently, there are two major secrets fans have discovered in Season of the Seraph, one that seems to be directly related to this stranger, one that could be… something else.

Almost immediately after the season begins, players notice some strange new creatures popping up all over the map in seemingly random locations. They’re best described as…the big balls, the ones that look like some kind of Bray-based technology, if I had to guess.

Found 35+ so far, but more keep coming and being found, and it looks like there will be 50 of them in total, similar to other collectibles that Destiny has put into the game in the past. They are invulnerable when fired, so everyone has the same idea for this weapon, that as soon as the new alien weapon is alive tomorrow, we’ll take that weapon and task with shooting 50 of these balls with it all over the solar system.

The reward will be.. what exactly? We know that Revision Zero contains many triggers. My current theory is that a “hard mode” version of the alien mission, or some of the puzzles within this quest, will produce a single trigger. Others can be obtained by chasing these 50 balls. I can’t prove it yet, I think it could be an ornament or something, but I’m pretty sure it’s related to this specific weirdo. The fortified arc didn’t unlock anything, so that must be it.

Hack stations

This… This is the weirdest.

At the end of Destiny 2’s many Lost Sectors are now those stations with the holographic Hakke logo, the weapon forge that makes powerful hits and cannonballs that damage the hull. You approach the terminal but it says “Access Denied: Encryption Required”.

Given that the new stranger doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Hakke, it’s not really clear what is meant by that. We have a small amount of hakie info that you’ve seen this season, i.e. an entry on how to upgrade your glaive and find it (the new Seraph of One), but besides that, this could be part of the story missions, as it might be one week we’ll have to wander around and find all of these Stuff as some sort of thing to help build Rasputin’s framework, or something else entirely. The word “cryptography” is generally associated with puzzles, and while I’m not jumping to any conclusions that this is a huge puzzle, it is…a puzzle in par, and I don’t really know where this is going.

So, these two are from this season. More may become clear tomorrow when the alien mission arrives, but until then, we’ll keep guessing.
