Strictly come dancing Professional Gorka Marquez has addressed claims that he was looking gloomy when Hamza Yasin was announced as the winner of this year’s competition.
Wildlife show host Hamza and his professional partner Joyeta Przysta received the Glitterball Award at the end of this year’s final. Meanwhile, Gorka and presenter Helen Skelton were among the runners-up, along with Fleur East, Vito Coppola, Molly Rainsford and Carlos Jo.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 5’s Helen programme, Gorkha hit back at accusations that he looked miserable while Hamza and Jweta celebrated.

“I wasn’t angry but I wanted Helen to finish the season with a cherry on top,” said the dancer. “But I was so happy for Hamza and Guetta – they were amazing.”
He continued, “Whoever won, it was great because all three couples were amazing, but we care and we love our job.”

Helen said she was “thrilled” for Hamza, while admitting that she was damaged by her defeat.
“Obviously we’re thrilled for Hamza because he did some amazing dances during the season, but with the reaction you and I, we can tell how disappointed we were,” she said.
“Gurkha has taken all my stress, all my nerves. The first week I hid in the fire escape saying I didn’t want to do it and now we have a standing ovation – that’s our trophy, buddy.”
