Viewers flooded with tears as the final episode of Escape to the Chateau came to an end

Viewers were left in floods of tears as the charming Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau ended last night.

Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adori bought the run-down 45-room mansion for just £280,000 in 2015, with Channel 4 launching its popular series After the Transformation in 2016.

The sprawling 19th-century building is now worth £2m, with Dick, 60, and Angel, 41, receiving up to £38,000 each for their wedding. However, the average price is around £19,000.

And in the last episode of the program, the couple bid farewell to the show with a huge party for family and friends, where they thanked everyone for their support.

Another wrote: ‘Sheer escapism and joy. Sunday won’t feel the same without it. Thank you for sharing your life with us.’

A third added: crying after the last episode. She has moved to France inspired by Dick and Angel and seems sad to have to say goodbye to them.

Another wrote: “Sad day for great, friendly, family-friendly TV.” I will miss watching them grow, but I will always have a glass of corn and hope for a future truffle update.

Many viewers were left in tears after watching the show, with some describing it as “just escapism and joy.”

One added, “The world will not miss it. Eight years have gone by so quickly. It has been an instructive and enjoyable hour. I will be ready, drink in hand, at 8 p.m. for the final farewell of this chapter.”

The program began with Dick and Angel measuring their children against a wall to see how much they had grown in a year.

The couple then explained how they invited over 100 friends and family to come and celebrate Christmas, and the final episode, together.

The owners said: ‘This year I had a real high level of appreciation for family gatherings.

The couple went out to the estate to pick out the perfect Christmas tree for the family home, and to decorate the property before the party.

Meanwhile they took part in a long-standing Christmas tradition, with Angel and Dorothy going out in search of decorations.

Friends and family began arriving at the mansion, while Angel laid out homemade crackers and table settings in a marquee for guests.

Angel was emotional as she looked around the tent, saying, “So much has happened, and in fact there have never been many times in your whole life when all your friends and family get together.

It’s all about memories. We’ll talk about this for a very long time.

For many of the guests, it was the first time in years that they had seen each other – and soon the tent was filled with warmth and love.

In the kitchen, everything was ready to prepare a five-course Christmas menu for the guests.

As the guests sat at their tables in the marquee, Dick and Angel gave a speech to thank them for coming to the event.

The angel said, “This is a big family Christmas dinner because you are our family.”

“Bottom line,” Dick said, “we’re all home, so be home and enjoy yourselves.”

As the evening ended, the couple stood up to give a final speech.

The owners said, “We are so grateful to have everyone here. Our friends, family, and awesome team – we love everyone so much. “

Meanwhile, Dick said he felt “very grateful” that they were all together, adding how “special” the group was.

The family popped out of the tent where they watched an amazing fireworks display together.

Arthur exclaimed: “This is the best day of my life!”

He could not contain his emotions and burst into tears, with Angel saying to her family: “What a journey it’s been and I love you both so much.”

Meanwhile, Dick says, “If it weren’t for you two, we wouldn’t have done this!”

Dick and Angel announced the news that the series will end in September this year.

In a statement, they said: “Escape to the chateau is our family’s journey. Our decision to buy a chateau without water, electricity, heat or sewage was the adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would happen.”

The good, the bad, the ugly… We cherish every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy (their children) when they’re all grown up.

We are very grateful to everyone who continues to support us and look forward to what the future holds. As the chapter of Château ends, another story of Château begins…”

And earlier this week, Dick and his wife Angel joined Lorraine to discuss the series finale.

Speaking about filming the final episode, Angel admitted it was “really emotional” and their nine-year-old son, Arthur, was in tears.

She said, “We literally finished filming a week ago and it was really emotional, my mom kept crying but it was a really happy feeling.”

“Arthur was crying, it was really beautiful, not many times you get to have all your family and the wedding is one of them but when it’s such a happy moment, it’s amazing.”

For those who’ve been following the family’s journey, not to worry: Channel 4 has commissioned Escape to the Chateau: Secret France due to air in 2023, which will follow the adventures of Dick and Angel as they unlock the mysteries of the country.
